1. Is the clinic recognised by and/or associated with a statutory body?

Yes, we are approved to conduct Pre-Employment Medical Examinations on Seafarers by the Directorate General of Shipping India which is the governing body on all seafarer related issues in India

2. Is the clinic covered by health & safety regulations for both candidates and staff?

Yes, we are ISO:9001 2008 certified and follow stringent health & safety guidelines in order to maintain this accreditation which requires an audit each calendar year.

3. Does the clinic already undertake pre-employment medicals for seafarers?

Yes, we are currently appointed by the UK Steamship Association, the American Steamship Owners Association, Disney Cruises, Princess P&O Cruise Lines and Carnival cruises to name a few clients.

4. How many pre-employment medicals are currently completed on a daily basis.

We conduct an average of 15 or more pre-employment medicals each day.

5. Location - can the clinic be easily accessed by candidates. Is it near a public transport system. Is it near manning agent's offices?

Our office in South Mumbai is located near a rail line and there are bus depots right outside our gates. Furthermore, our office is the vicinity of a majority of government offices, shipping corporation of India, Mumbai docks, and manning agents office in Ballard Estate.

6. Is the clinic owned and managed by a medical practitioner?

Yes, Dr, M. K.E. Memon is a practicing physician since 1978 and is owner and Managing Director of Kaifak Medicare Pvt. Ltd.

7. Does the clinic have fully qualified doctors and are they employed on a full time basis?

Yes, we have four doctors on staff, a radiologist, a pathologist and two general physicians who help Dr. Memon on a daily basis with all examinations.

8. Is all medical screening undertaken by a fully qualified medical practitioner who understands the nature of seafarer’s work?

Yes, all screenings are conducted by qualified personnel that understand the nature of seafarers work. The fact that we have been in the industry for 30 years and have been appointed by a number of major clubs and association is a testament to our ability to maintain these standards.

9. How much of the examination is actually performed by resident doctors, and how many other general staff, nurses and technicians are involved? Is the medical split into specific examinations or is it a general overview, and is there a full time dentist and optician at the clinic?

The medical is split into specific examinations and handled by a general physician, a radiologist, a lab technician and a x-ray technician. A dentist is on call in house as needed based on the requirement of the company/association requesting PEME. An optician is also available on call as necessary.

10. If the screening includes specific examinations - are the results of all examinations and investigations computerised and retained on a PC database for a minimum of 7 years?

Yes, all records have maintained electronically and will be maintained on our remote databases for 10 years as stipulated by the requirement of various P&I Clubs.

11. Where the examining doctor is unsure of the significance of any examination result - does the clinic have a method of referral to medical specialists?

Yes, we have assembled a team of specialists that serve at some of the most prestigious hospitals in Mumbai and they are available for advice and referrals to our clients on an as needed basis.

12. Is equipment regularly calibrated?

We have a comprehensive service contracts for all our equipment and machinery so each machine is inspected at least quarterly and calibrated annually or as recommended by the manufacturer.

13. Are onsite facilities available for sampling blood and urine ?

Yes, both our Mumbai clinics have on-site laboratories to sample and test both blood and urine.

14. Does the clinic give candidates instructions prior to the appointment for examination ?

Yes, we have detailed instructions with regard to the specific test that are conducted and their requirements which are conveyed to the candidates before they come in for PEME.

15. Does the clinic have an existing cost structure for medical examinations?

Yes, the costs are standard and total cost for medicals is entirely dependent on the number of tests conducted during PEME.
